The European Universities Games is a multisport event engaging athletes from European universities, held every two years, hosted in different European university cities. The Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc are hosting the sixth edition of European Universities Games after Lodz, Poland were handed the hosting rights for 2022.

The first edition of the Games in 2012 attracted over 2500 participants, representing 154 universities from 32 countries. Rotterdam, The Netherlands hosted the second edition in 2014 which witnessed over 2800 participants from 34 countries, representing 174 universities from 34 countries. The third edition of the Games was hosted by Zagreb and Rijeka in Croatia and included more than 5400 participants representing 388 universities from 40 countries, a competition record. The fourth edition was held in the City of Coimbra, Portugal over the summer of 2018, and involved 4027 participants from 38 countries representing 291 different universities. Poland’s city Lodz hosts the fifth edition of the Games in 2022.
